What do you study in History at Key Stage Three?

All Key Stage Three students at Brownlow Integrated College have the opportunity to develop their skills in History.

You will discover that learning about the past is interesting, relevant and varied. Through a wide range of learning and teaching methods our students develop an understanding of topics such as the Medieval world, the causes of religious conflict in the Sixteenth Century and warfare in the Twentieth Century.

You are encouraged to develop skills as a Historian and appreciate the importance and relevance of History in a rapidly changing world. Those who realise that the people, events and wars of the past are fascinating have the opportunity to develop their understanding of History by studying the subject at GCSE Level.

What do you study in History at GCSE?

If you are interested in studying History as a GCSE subject, take some time to reflect on these questions:

Have you ever considered the horrors of the Holocaust, or why it occurred in the first place?
Have you ever thought about why Ireland experienced conflict or considered the efforts that were made to bring about peace?

Are you aware that for nearly five decades after the end of World War Two, there was a constant fear that nuclear war would destroy the world as we know it?

If you are interested in discovering the answers to these questions, then you should consider choosing History as a subject for GCSE.

 What does the Course involve?

You are expected to complete one written piece of coursework on the Warsaw Ghetto and the Final Solution.  This is worth 20% of your GCSE grade.  There are also two written examinations.  Paper One will focus on Germany and Northern Ireland and Paper Two on the Cold War.

There are two levels of entry for History:

Foundation Tier                      Grades C – G
Higher Tier                              Grades A* - E
