LEARNING FOR LIFE & WORK
STAFF
Miss K. Quinn

Learning for Life and Work is a new school subject that many of Brownlow Integrated College’s past pupils and parents may know little about.
The subject comes in four strands, and aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills which will support them in life after school. Through Personal Development, Citizenship, Employability and Home Economics, we raise issues such as Health, Drugs Awareness, Human Rights, Democracy and Globalisation, endeavouring to foster in our pupils a deeper understanding of the world around them.
This subject is also an excellent forum in which pupils can develop their own skills and personal capabilities. This is very much an active subject, and lessons often take the form of discussions, role-plays, pupil presentation and debates. At Brownlow, it is of the utmost importance that pupils recognise their abilities and strive to improve upon them. The manner in which Learning for Life and Work is delivered provides superb opportunities for pupils to develop skills in research, communication, working in a team and being creative among many others.
Pupils of all ages are involved in this subject. It is a very important part of the curriculum at Key Stage 3, and at Brownlow Integrated College we also offer the subject at G.C.S.E level. Our first set of pupils to go through the course will this year be completing their final exams, and we look forward to a pleasing and rewarding set of results.
