MULTI - CULTURAL DAY

Show All

Pupils at Brownlow Integrated College hail from all parts of the globe: Vietnam, China, South Africa, The Philippines, Portugal and Poland are just some of the nationalities represented here. Approximately one in nine of our children speak a language other than English as their first language, so for us integration has a much broader meaning than the traditional one of Catholics and Protestants learning together. There is a rich tapestry of cultures, religions, languages and traditions within our school, which are experienced first hand every day by the pupils and staff here. We are very proud of the diversity within our walls.

On 27th February this year we staged a Multi-cultural day in the school, during which pupils took time out from lessons to further experience food, craft activities, music, costumes and sports from around the world in a variety of fun and motivating ways.

We based our idea on the famous Disneyland Ride ‘It’s a Small World’, where different zones offer a different experience. Our school was divided into five zones: Asia, Africa, Scandinavia, Europe and UK/Ireland. Staff worked hard to transform the usual appearance of the corridors and classrooms to the snowy landscape of Lapland and the exotic streets of Marrakesh and dressed up as Rumba dancers, Geisha girls and African tribesmen.

The theme for Integration Week this year is “It’s a small world”. We at Brownlow proved this by heading around the world in one day!
